Artist: Alfred Lombard (1884-1973)
Alfred Lombard (1884-1973) Les Arts du métal, 1925, gouache, 20 x29 cm, signed lower right.Solid aluminum frame, framed dimensions, 40 x 50 cm. Decorative project commissioned for the 1925 Decorative Arts Exhibition.

Born in Marseille, Alfred Lombard took part in the Fauve adventure from 1907 with Girieud, Verdilhan and Camoin. He took part in the artistic Renaissance of Provence with Girieud, organizing the Salon de Mai in 1912 and 1913, and in 1914 exhibited at Galerie Rosenberg and then at Druet. From 1920 onwards, he devoted himself to large-scale decoration, with commissions for the liners "Atlantique" and "Normandie", in collaboration with architect Jean Patout, and for the 1925 Exposition des Arts Décoratifs and the 1937 Exposition Internationale.
Lombard continued his pictorial research throughout his life, showing little of his work, which today reveals an extraordinary richness and diversity. Museums of Marseille, Aix en Provence, Saint-Tropez, Le Havre, Art Moderne Paris, Beauvais, Caen,...
