Rosewood, Rosewood And Mahogany Table-bureau, Louis XV Style - Early 20th Century
https://www.antiquites-lecomte.com/boutique/meubles-de-decoration/table-bureau-en-bois-de-rose-et-acajou-style-louis-xv-debut-xxe/Elegant and refined, this early 20th-century rosewood desk perfectly illustrates the return to favor of curved forms and precious decor inspired by the Louis XV style.
The top, delicately inlaid with rosewood and mahogany, features a careful geometric decoration typical of the quality production of the Belle Époque, a period during which cabinetmakers revived the great pre-war French styles out of nostalgia for progress and peace.
The front opens with a drawer highlighted by a large, finely chased ormolu keyhole.
The handles, also in ormolu, complete the set with understated elegance.
Resting on four curved legs, the desk table adopts the supple, harmonious curves typical of the Louis XV style.
Each leg is adorned with a gilt bronze drop, ending in an attractive sabot that protects and enriches the base of the piece.
The ensemble testifies to masterful cabinetmaking, where the quality of the materials is combined with precise execution.
Thanks to its well-balanced dimensions, this highly decorative piece of furniture can equally well be used as a small desk, a coffee table or, why not, an elegant and functional console in an entrance hall or bedroom.
