The body is completely open, forming a niche.
The waistband is slightly curved.
The sides are pierced with two small star-shaped openings for transport, as it was customary to conceal this piece of furniture during the day.
The whole is topped with a wooden tray.
This amusing little piece of furniture, called a "bedside table" in Voltaire's philosophical dictionary, is described as "a convenient piece of furniture which is placed near a bed and on which several utensils are placed".
In the niche, was often placed the necessaire allowing to take a snack, hence the name "table à en-cas".
