Basuqe Cane Called Makhila - Luxury Model - France, Early 20th Century
Scarified medlar wood shaft.
Steel trefoil.
The bottom ferrule and handle are made of chased, blued and gilded steel (often called Toledo steel).
When the handle is unscrewed, the steel stinger appears.
A model featuring the same workmanship and probably coming out of the same workshop is preserved and exhibited at the Musée Basque in Bayonne, it belonged to the writer Pierre Loti. However, Pierre Loti's makhila is simpler and much less well preserved.
