Originating from Bougainville Island in the Solomon Islands, the spatula () is cut from the nacre of a shell and features a serrated end. It was used to loosen the pulp from coconuts.
A similar example is preserved in the collections of the musée du quai Branly, Paris under inventory number 71.1934.188.151.
Our example comes from the Maine Durieu gallery, Paris.
