Carvedand Gilded Wooden Console, Italy, Barocchetto Period, Mid-18th Century

Carvedand gilded wooden console, Italy, Barocchetto period, mid-18th century

This elegant console was made during the Barocchetto period (Rococo), around the mid-18th century,in the Piedmont region, Italy. The top is in Bardiglio grey marble with a shaped and moulded edge. The apronbeneath the top is particularly distinctive, made of finely carved and gildedwood, pierced at the front, on the legs, and at the sides. The rich and flowingdecorations feature rocaille motifs and symmetrical phytomorphic elements, which converge in the center to form a sort of frame around a rose. The legsare typical of the period: curved, sinuous, and richly carved. They end involutes and scrolls and are joined at the bottom by a shaped stretcher incarved and gilded wood, pierced to form an asymmetrical rocaille-styledecoration. This console stands out for the refinement ofits carving and the abundant presence of pierced elements, recalling the FrenchLouis XV taste, which was a stylistic reference for Piedmont. It appearsluminous and highly decorative. Despite the richness of its ornamentation, itremains graceful and can easily be integrated into various settings, such asentryways and corridors, as well as living rooms or bedrooms, whether combinedwith antique or modern furniture.
