Strong Chinese Dadao Sword - China, 19th/early 20th Century
Strong Chinese dadao saber - China, 19th/early 20th century
Rustic saber with long handle for two-handed grip.
The handle is incomplete; it was generally made of two bamboo plates joined to silk and wound with a cord.
Ringed pommel.
Steel S-guard.
Saber difficult to place precisely in time, as this type of saberwas used just as much during the taiping revolt as during the boxer revolt, the Boxer Rebellion, the Warlord Period and right up to thecivil war and the Sino-Japanese war.
However, the silk-riveted guard would seem to be more of a 19th-century custom.
Accident to the tip. General oxidation.
Weight 1010gr
Length 91.5cm
Blade length 58cm
