Focardi lived in Toscolano Maderno from 1918 until the early 1930s, before moving to Liguria and then to the Côte d'Azur, where he died in Cannes in 1945. A pointillist painter, he was famous for his views of Lake Garda, hence his nickname "Painter of Lake Garda".

Born in Settignano on May 21, 1889, he was introduced to art by his father, Ruggero Focardi. At thirteen, he successfully exhibited at the Florence Museum of Fine Arts. All his many canvases are inspired by the life, customs and enchanting landscapes of Lake Garda. He uses a divisionist technique and a spontaneous, wide-ranging style of rigorous, figurative and personal realism. He exhibited in Florence, Rome, Milan, Brescia, Paris, London, New York, Amsterdam, Brussels, Berlin and Vienna, almost always with the Italian Divisionist Group. Among his major works are: "The Battle of Adua" and "The Disaster of Calabro-Siculo", in the Divisionist Military Museum in Florence; "Plants of Lake Garda", at the National Gallery of Modern Art in Rome; "Autumn Afternoon in the Upper Valtenesi", at the National Gallery of Italian Art in Lima, Peru; "The Valtenesi"; and "Pasture on Lake Garda". "A Window on Lake Garda"; "Lake Garda from Monte Pizzoccolo"; "Reflections and Reflections"; "At the Aerodrome", awarded in Florence and acquired by the King; portraits of "Signora Mary Carboni" and "Mirella Bolognesi"; "Domestic Life"; "In the Country"; "Breakfast Time"; "Dr. Carloni's Children"; "Family Joy and Solemnity"; "A Conversation Near Home"; "Shoemakers Studying".
