Carved And Gilded Wooden Console Table
An elegant console table in carved and gilded wood, from the Papal States, 18th century. The console table is characterized by rich plant-inspired ornamentation and a striking sculptural composition. It features a contoured top painted to resemble marble and rests on a central support finely carved with volutes, foliage, rocaille elements, and plant motifs.
The entire structure rests on a contoured base, atop which stand two putti sculpted in the round, depicted in dynamic poses as they seem to support the upper structure.
