Rare Large Native American "skookum" Dolls, Circa 1920, 48 Cm And 42,5 Cm High

"Skookum" dolls with a Native American theme were born in the USA at the very beginning of the 20th century in Missoula, under the fingers of a certain Mary Dwyer McAboy (1876-1961), who, as a shrewd shopkeeper, quickly made her small craft business prosper, active until 1960.
This rare pair of dolls is typical of the 1918 - 1924 production period, with a wooden frame, a rag body covered with pieces of traditional Indian wool blankets, very expressive papier-mâché or boiled cardboard heads, real hair (admittedly, some is missing!..., but 100 years have passed!), moccasins made of suede glued to the wood...
But above all, they are rare in terms of size... The norm was 30 to 35 cm, (12 to 14 inches) or even less ...
Here, the man is 48 cm high by 15 cm wide, the woman is 42.5 cm high by 14.2 cm wide...
Getting off the teepee, we're in the big leagues here!...

And even if the big boss doesn't have his hairstyle anymore, he hasn't lost any of his superb looks, which apparently amuses his companion!
