Marie Louise Lustremant Tableau La Procession Notre Dame De Paris Enfant De Coeur Moniale

Artist: Marie Louise Lustremant

Marie-Louise Lustremant - Notre-Dame de Paris, enfants de coeurs et moniales circa 1920

Post-Impressionist oil on board signed Marie-Louise Lustremant, located on the back "Notre-Dame de Paris". A beautiful, intimate scene, evocative of a religious procession animated by deep fervor, depicting a group of choirboys kneeling in the nave, around a cross carried in the center of the composition. In the foreground, the dark silhouettes of the nuns create a powerful contrast with the children's light aubs, bathed in whites, blues and cream tones.

The work captures with great sensitivity collective recollection, the concentration of the rite and religious sentiment. The figures, treated in broad, thick strokes, are not detailed one by one: they form a living whole, united by prayer. The vertical cross gives the scene its spiritual axis, while the freely interpreted checkerboard floor leads the eye towards the central group.

The material is generous, the whites of the dawns, enriched with cool, luminous shades, respond to the deep blues of the nuns. This opposition gives the scene a remarkable intensity, between liturgical observation and inner vision.

Marie-Louise Lustremant was a pupil of Lucien Simon and René-Xavier Prinet, and studied at La Grande Chaumière. In 1921, she married painter René Olivier, a specialist in historical painting and lecturer at the École Nationale des Arts décoratifs in Limoges. The couple shared a studio on rue Garancière in Paris (address indicated on the back, titled "à Notre Dame de Paris...incomplet), a stone's throw from the church of Saint-Sulpice. Travels and participates in numerous salons ( Paris/Bordeaux, also in Spain)

Very beautifully presented in an antique molded wooden frame, under glass, which perfectly accompanies the work and reinforces its intimate, collected character.

Total dimensions with frame: 35 x 30 cm.
Sight dimensions: 27 x 22 cm.
