Mithé Espelt, Wall Mirror With Geometric Cabochons
Mithé ESPELT (1923-2020),
Wall mirror with geometric cabochons
Work by the Lunel workshop, circa 1950-1960
Glazed ceramic decorated with raised cabochons, crackled gold highlights, central mirror
A rectangular wall mirror with ceramic frame entirely structured by a decoration of raised geometric cabochons. The composition combines square and rectangular elements, arranged rhythmically on a dark background, in alternating shades of green, typical of the palette developed by the Lunel workshop.
The central mirror, with its softened corners, is set in a reserve framed by a gold border, reinforcing the effect of architectural composition.
The whole is part of a decorative vocabulary characteristic of Mithé ESPELT, based on the combination of simple volumes, bold colors and a precious treatment of surfaces. The use of cabochons in relief, combined with gold highlights, places this mirror in a production where the utilitarian object becomes a decorative element in its own right, close to goldsmithing or wall jewelry.
