Regency Period Crucifix In Carved And Gilded Wood, Christ In Ivory - Early 18th Century .
Regency period carved and gilded wood crucifix, ivory Christ - Early 18th century
Elengant Regency-period crucifix, French work from the early 18th century, featuring a remarkable frame in finely carved and richly gilded wood, with a moving décor of rinceaux, volutes and florettes characteristic of this transitional style between Louis XIV and Louis XV.
The composition is organized around a dark background highlighting a gilded wood cross, against which an ivory Christ of great finesse of execution stands out. The sculpture is particularly expressive, revealing delicate workmanship in the treatment of anatomy, the draping of the perizonium and the tilted head, reflecting a fine Baroque sensibility.
Note the presence of the titulus "INRI" at the top of the cross, as well as the symbolic motif of Adam's skull at the foot, carved in bas-relief, reinforcing the spiritual dimension of the whole.
The openwork frame, richly adorned with foliage and topped with a floral bouquet, gives the object a strong decorative presence while retaining great elegance.
Homogeneous set, showing a beautiful old patina. Wear and minor chips to the gilding, in keeping with the age, without altering the reading or charm of the piece.
Smaller pieces with a strong decorative presence, yet retaining great elegance.
