Ancient Dōtaku (Japanese bronze ritual bell) from the Yayoi period, dating from around 200 A.D. It has a magnificent burial patina.
These ancient artifacts were made only during the Yayoi period, from 300 B.C. to 300 A.D. Initially inspired by continental sound models, these bells evolved in Japan into larger, thinner shapes, losing their acoustic function to become purely symbolic symbols.C. to 300 A.D. Often adorned with geometric motifs or scenes from daily life (hunting, rice-growing, architecture), they were generally buried on hillsides, far from dwellings, during fertility rituals intended to ensure abundant harvests.
