Originally from Brittany, trained at the Beaux-Arts, Reni-Mel was mobilized in 1915 for the Great War; at the end of it he suddenly became famous with twomonumental compositions: France 1914 and America. This work, America, was donated to the American governmentand marks the beginning of Reni-Mel's career, who from 1923 to 1934 lived in the United States, where he met the woman who would become his wife and produced numerous landscapes and portraits.
