Raised by Jean Paul Laurens and Jean Gatherin, Albert Fourié began his career as a sculptor, a discipline he abandoned in 1877 to devote himself to painting. His elegant style and landscapes won him several medals at the Paris Salon.
In 1887, he exhibited Un repas de noce à Yport, a work that caused a sensation and was acquired by the French state. The painting is now in the Musée de Beaux Arts de Rouen.
He stayed regularly in Yport from 1891, in the villa of his friend Jules DIETERLE. Our painting in Yport, dated 1892, is in the Impressionist style.
