Jozef Popczyk (1890-1971) Large Art Deco Cubist Painting -the Jazz Orchestra-.
Artist: Jozef Popczyk (1890-1971)
Important Cubist painting, oil on canvas, Art Deco period, circa 1925-30, signed lower right POPCZYK (Jozef Popczyk 1890-1971). Born in Krakow, he settled in Paris in the 1910s. His work is part of the Cubist movement within Art Deco. He loved to depict, with verve and energy, the effervescence of Parisian nightlife, particularly jazz scenes in Parisian clubs. Dimensions: 95 cm x 81 cm. The work is presented in a very refined Montparnasse frame with a golden patina, original canvas and stretcher. It should be noted that the frame is countersigned by the artist on the back and includes a note with the title of the work to be translated. Good overall condition. See auction results for this artist (source Drouot and OneBid). Note, on the fourth line, a work similar to our painting on the theme of a jazz orchestra, offered in a smaller format, sold for €5560. This large oil on canvas perfectly illustrates the excellence of the artist's work; it brilliantly evokes the atmosphere of the Parisian jazz movement of the Belle Époque.
