This is the famous adjustable reading table model, with telescopic mahogany shelf.
The four-legged base is in gilded bronze.
The original bone plaque of the master cabinetmaker is on the back.
Our table is sold as is (one arm to be restored).

John Carter was a genius cabinetmaker and inventor. He owned a famous store at 6 Cavendish Street, Portland Place, London.

He was a supplier to Queen Victoria, the Prince of Wales, as well as the emperors of Germany and Russia.
A model similar to ours was presented to German Emperor Wilhelm I.
