Mavaleix Limoges Porcelain Vase, With Hand-painted Decoration, Musketeer, Soldier, Character

Artist: Mavaleix ( Période 1908-1914)
Beautiful Limoges porcelain vase decorated with a military figure, probably a musketeer seated and quenching his thirst. On the back of the vase, a cartouche decorated with a fortified castle. Gold highlights on the neckline.
This vase bears the signature "De Rilhac"
Below the base, two stamps are present, the first for the Mavaleix factory ( period 1908-1914), the second in green also for export, Georges Borgfeldt in New York, had his porcelain decorated in Limoges under the Coronet trade name.

In 1908, after the dissolution of the company he had formed with the Balleroy and Mondavy brothers, Paul Maurice Mavaleix continued alone at 1 rue Charpentier. The few known pieces he produced were extremely meticulous, and it was at full capacity that in 1914 he had to close his factory to go off to war. At the end of hostilities, on March 16 1920, he joined forces with Jean Granger, but a few months later he died of wounds received in the war.
