Louis Joseph Prat, known as Loÿs Prat, was a French painter born on October 6, 1879, in Donzère (Drôme) and died in November 1934 in Avignon.
Loÿs Prat was the son of Basile Prat, a town clerk, and Marie Aminthe Cécile Clément, niece of the Donzère painter Félix-Auguste Clément. In 1896, he received a grant from the Drôme General Council for his artistic studies. In 1897, he enrolled at the École des Beaux-Arts in Lyon. In 1900, Prat moved to Paris where he was admitted to the École des Beaux-Arts. A student of Fernand Cormon, he prepared for the Prix de Rome competition. He won the second prize in 1908. During the First World War, he was mobilized and assigned to a camouflage unit.
He produced works influenced by Impressionism as well as numerous private and public decorations.
Works : 1910: decoration of the north gallery of the Petit Palais in Paris with Fernand Cormon;
1914: decoration of the theater at the Blanchisserie-Teinturerie in Thaon-les-Vosges;
1918-1919: decorations for the chocolate factory of the Abbaye Notre-Dame d'Aiguebelle, relocated to Donzère;
1922: decoration of the boys' school at 33 rue Miollis, Paris[2];
1923: frescoes for a home for disabled veterans in Thaon-les-Vosges; 1925: frescoes for three buildings of the International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts: the Cour des Métiers pavilion, the Albert-Morancé-Corcellet pavilion, and the Saint-Dominique Fabert gate (undated); decorations for a school on rue Eugène-Reisz (Paris);
1932: three Decorative canvases for the town hall of Colombes: Allegory on the theme of love and family; The crowd cheering the winning athlete at the 1924 Summer Olympics which took place partly in Colombes; Queen Marie Antoinette visiting the Moulin Joly estate in Colombes in 1774.
