Eugène BAZIN (1799-1866) General Bréa and the Insurgents of June 1848, gouache, 11 x 18 cm, signed lower right. On the reverse, inscription: "Agreed to General Bréa to go to the Fontainebleau Gate". 19th-century frame. Framed dimensions: 27 x 34 cm. In 1848, General Bréa was tasked with operating against the insurgents on the left bank of the Seine. He had succeeded in pushing them back outside the city walls. Hoping to bring them back by peaceful means, he advanced to parley outside the Fontainebleau gate (present-day Place d'Italie), but he was captured and killed on June 25, 1848.
