China, Late Qing or Minguo, circa 1900-1920, delightful porcelain baluster vase, the wide, flared neck ending in a cup shape.
The decorations are in coral-red (or iron-red) enamels composed of blossoming lotuses, leaves and foliage on the body- as well as the neck - constrained between two friezes of lotus petals enhanced by floral ornaments.The base of the neck is surrounded by a frieze of ruyi, while the top features a register of archaic geometric forms.archaic geometric forms.
The moving handles depict stylized Fo lions.
The pierced base bears an apocryphal six-character zuangshu mark of the emperorQianlong (1736-1795).
This type of decoration is a continuation of the "blue whites" of the Ming and Qing eras,itself inspired by floral interlacing from the Middle East.The lotus represents union and harmony...As for the ruyi, it symbolizes longevity as the "head" of the immortality mushroom linzhi
