Antique 19 Th Century Gadget Cane With Lighter System
Rare system cane from the former collection of Madeleine Gely. In Paris.
This cane is the one Madeleine Gely lent to Catherine Dike to be photographed and described in her reference book, "Les cannes à système, un monde fabuleux et méconnu", illustration 7 / 104.
This is a chain system that drove the stone wheel. The flint was held in place by a spring-loaded blade. The wick was adjusted by a ring that moved it forward or backward, it was protected by a small cover with a pretty bee motif. On the top of the pommel a bird and flowers very representative of the motifs depicted around 1900.
Missing the wick and the screw thread on the "lid" is slightly off (visible on the photos).
The entire cane measures 35,63 inches long.
