Adolphe Itasse, l'Amour Vainqueur, Bronze, Late 19th Century
Important sculpture in patinated bronze depicting Love, balanced on one foot and smiling, preparing to launch an arrow while drawing another from his quiver.
A plaster version of "L'Amour vainqueur" was presented by Itasse at the 1887 Salon, under number 4104.
Signed "A. Itasse Paris" on the base.
Adolphe Itasse (1829-1893) was a French sculptor trained at the Beaux-Arts de Paris under Jean-Hilaire Belloc and Georges Jacquot. He exhibited regularly at the Salon from 1864 and took part in the 1889 Exposition Universelle, where he was awarded a medal of honor. The author of numerous busts, groups, statues and bas-reliefs, notably for the facades of the Opéra Garnier and the Hôtel de Ville, his works can now be seen in several French and American museums.
