Mobilier International publisherArmchairs No. 670 and an ottoman No. 671, rosewood veneer shell, metal base

Since its origin, there have been two official editions of the Lounge Chair: an American version and a European version. The first has been manufactured by Herman Miller since 1956 and continues to this day. The second was produced by Mobilier International under Herman Miller license and later by Vitra. They are distinguished by the shape of the base and a few manufacturing details.

Originating from a prototype presented at the “Organic Design in Home Furnishings” competition at the Museum of Modern Art in 1940, the Lounge Chair was designed and produced in 1956 for film director Billy Wilder’s birthday.
