Sculpture "Danseuse MERCEDES DASSY" by Marc DAUTRY in terracotta, France 1990
Marc Dautry (1930-2008) was a French draughtsman, sculptor and engraver, originally from the Gard region. By the age of five, he was already sculpting his first animal figurines. At the age of twelve, a visit to the Maison Carrée in Nîmes gave him his first glimpse of a Gallo-Roman female torso, the beauty of which overwhelmed him: from then on, his path was clear: he would become a sculptor. This was the start of a real battle with his father, for whom art was synonymous with perdition. At the age of fifteen, he left his native Gard for Montauban. In 1949, he entered the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Toulouse, where he burned through the grades, winning his first prizes in drawing, engraving and sculpture in two years
