Lutrin table with four circular legs and a simple rectangular base, featuring grooves to fold down the vertical part (adorned with balusters decorated with discs and a crest of vegetal scrolls with a heraldic mirror in the center). The front features another baluster with discs and vegetal motifs. There is also a small balustrade at the front, with shorter balusters to support the book. Compare with the missal lectern attributed to Vergara's workshop and dated between 1534 and 1566, preserved in the Lázaro Galdiano Museum in Madrid, Spain (inventory 4060) and with another, dated on the piece itself to 1656 (inscription indicating it was made for the Convent of the Holy Trinity in Toledo) and decorated with enamel, made by Juan Ruiz in Madrid and now on the art market. Garcilaso de la Vega (Toledo, 1491/1503 - Nice, October 14, 1536) was a Spanish poet and soldier of the Golden Age, son of Garcilaso de la Vega, Lord of Arcos and Grand Commander of León in the Order of Santiago, and Sancha de Guzmán, Lady of Batres and Cuerva. He entered the service of King Charles I in 1520 as a royal page. He married Elena de Zúñiga, lady-in-waiting to Eleonora (Charles I's sister), and joined her retinue. As well as taking part in a number of battles, he is known as a writer (his poetic works include forty sonnets, five songs, an ode in lyre stanzas, two elegies, an epistle, three eglogues and eight Castilian coplas, as well as three odes and an epigram in Latin, first published in 1543). He was appointed Knight of St. James on November 11, 1523.
