Henri Rivière (1864-1951) was a French painter, engraver and illustrator. He began his career with drawing, then with intaglio engraving and specifically etching in 1882. At the same time, he embarked on a career as a stage director and set designer, in 1886, of shadow plays at the Chat Noir cabaret, shows that he improved by creating highly innovative color sets. He then devoted himself exclusively to painting and engraving, making a name for himself in the history of etching, woodcutting, lithography and watercolor (he painted around a thousand watercolors).
