On the reverse, a 19th-century label:(Bolognese School) Painting depicting St. Venantius at a timewhen water was lacking for his soldiers. He performs the miracle of causing itto gush forth from the cliff. An original by Varotti, a disciple of Franceschini, createdin 1760—a small painting of uncommon merit. It was purchased by AgostinoSola in February 1871 in Bologna.
