Original frame in very good condition, original intact gilding
Son of Count Hippolyte de Swieykowski (Kiev, Trzaska coat of arms) and Anastasie Debolle, a pupil of Cormon at the Beaux-Arts in Paris, Alfred Swieykowski was a French post-impressionist of Polish origin exhibiting regularly at the Salon des Artistes Français and then at the SNBA. Jean-Marc Michaud's monograph (2021) recently reassessed his corpus of some 600 works.
This sumptuous bouquet - salmon-orange dahlias, crimson peonies, yellow sunflowers - bursts forth on an inky-blue background. The divided brushstrokes, vigorous impastos and ambitious composition mark Swieykowski at his best.
Exceptional provenance, documented by label on reverse: purchased directly from the artist between 1925 and 1934 by Arnold Lassieur (chemist, thesis at the Collège de France 1925) and his wife Mathilde de Marillat (dentist), on the advice of their friend Charles Lhermitte - pictorialist photographer preserved at the Musée d'Orsay).
Alfred Świeykowski (1869-1953)
Martwa natura z daliami w wazonie Imari, ok. 1925-1934
Olej na płótnie, 73x60 cm. Sygnowany dołem z lewej. Oryginalna rama typu Montparnasse, złocona płatkami.
Alfred Świeykowski - syn hrabiego Hipolita Świeykowskiego (Kijów, herb Trzaska) i Anastazji Debolle - studiował w Paryżu u Cormona i regularnie wystawiał w Salon des Artistes Français oraz SNBA. Monografia Jean-Marca Michauda (2021) niedawno zrewaloryzowała jego dzieło.
Ten wspaniały bukiet - dalie w tonach pomarańczy i karmazynu, piwonie, słonecznik - eksploduje kolorami na tle głębokiego granatu, przypominając martwe natury Bonnarda i Valtata.
