Osmond : Louis XVI Period Chased And Gilt Bronze Cartel - Signed
Antique-style sconce in chased bronze and gilded with matt and burnished gold.and burnished gold, "Modèle de qualité royale" by the most prestigiousartisans of the Louis XV - Louis XVI period: Robert Osmond, bronzier. The dial is signed by Lelan in Nantes.
The circular enamelled dial, signed Lelan in Nantes, indicateshours and minutes in increments of five in Roman and Arabic numeralsArabic numerals by two gilded copper pierced hands. It is housed in aa neoclassical case made entirely of finely chased bronzeand gilded with matt and burnished gold. The cushion is formed by an urn "à l'antique decorated with palms and ending in a flame, in whose handles a longa long sprig of laurels. The lower partlower part, bordered by two lateral acanthus leaves, is centered by a window the movement of the balance wheel and ends in a sheath decorateddecorated with rows of piastres and an acanthus-leaf lamp base. Robert Osmond (1711 - 1789), became a master bronzemaker in Paris in 1746.A juror of his guild, he was one of the first to protect histo protect his rights as a creator by signing his works, an uncommon common practice among bronziers of the time. From 1775, his nephew JeanBaptiste took over until 1784.The Osmonds had a prolific career, producing all kinds offurniture bronzes, including andirons, sconces and inkwells.today they are best known for the clock cases they supplied towhich they supplied to the finest watchmakers of the day, such as our cartel.

Excellent original condition: the gilt bronze retains its 18th-centurygilding in good condition. The strongly curved glass globeis also original. The movement works (wirewithout striking. Complete overhaul by our watchmaker, movement completely dismantleddisassembled, cleaned, overhauled. Key present.
