A Finely Carved 18th-century Venetian Mirror.
An elegant wall mirror in carved wood gilded with gold leaf, dating to the mid-18th century and attributable to refined Venetian craftsmanship with Lombard influences. The piece stands as a significant stylistic testament to the transition between the final phases of the Baroque and the emerging lightness of the Rococo, revealing a dynamic exploration of movement in its forms. The frame unfolds in a undulating pattern, where the interplay of curves and counter-volutes creates a sculptural and vibrant perimeter.
The cornice, the point of maximum vertical tension, is defined by a stylized shell within which an anthropomorphic mask is set, surrounded by a series of flowering racemes and foliage. The side structure lightens the rigidity of the wood through elaborate openwork, which guides the eye toward the symmetrical base. The mirror is antique with a mercury finish.
From a conservation standpoint, minimal restoration work has been performed on certain details and structural reinforcements; these repairs appear well integrated into the main façade, maintaining a consistent harmony with the period patina. The external dimensions are approximately 165 x 120 cm.
