Louis Azéma, Mowing Scene, Oil On Canvas
Louis Azéma,born in Agde on1876 and died on January 10, 1963 in Montmorency(Val d'Oise), was a French painter and singer. Louis was the youngestof three brothers. His two eldest brothers, Auguste (1868-1948) and Ernest(1871-1917) were also artists. He was admitted in 1892at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Montpellier, and after a year ofthe Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Paris. A student ofGustaveMoreau, FrançoisFlameng and FernandCormon, he exhibited at the Salondes artistes français in 1911, 1912 and 1921, winning the goldgold medal. He was subsequently Hors-Concours. Toulousemarked the artist's crowning achievement, becoming PresidentPresident of the Salon des Artistes Français and the Salon des Artistes Occitans.He was made a Chevalier de la Légion d'honneurd'honneur (1925).
The French state acquired several of his works.VisitMusée Agathois Jules Baudou holds fifteen of his paintings. Themuseums in Sète, Toulouse, Montpellier and Béziers also preserveworks by this forgotten artist, who was brought to lightbrothers at a 2009 exhibition in Agde: "Azéma,une famille d'artistes agathois".
