Virgin Of Pity (or Pieta) 16th Century
Virgin of Pity, also known as Pieta, in polychrome oak, the Virgin Mary gathers her son on her knees to her left, she is covered by a long cloak with thick, heavy folds, with wide, round diagonal folds, she wears a wimple, the Virgin holds a handkerchief in her right hand, her hollow-eyed face seems lost in this gaze, with full cheeks and a small chin in relief. She holds Christ's body in her left hand, while her right hand holds the handkerchief she uses to wipe her weeping eyes. The movement of the right arm accentuates this suffering. The polychromy is still clearly visible. The sculpture remains voluminous and imposing.
