Spanish vargueño, circa 1700
A vargueño (also called bargueño) is a traditional piece of Spanish Renaissance furniture. It is a secretary often with a flap that serves as a writing table. The interior usually features numerous small drawers and compartments.
This example dates from around 1700.
It is in exceptional, pure and magnificent condition. Almost entirely original. Only a few minor wood restorations have been carried out here and there.
Very beautiful original back panel.
The cabinet is made of solid walnut. Beautiful patina and color. It rests on a custom-made metal base dating from a later period (mid-twentieth century).
