A work of great compositional elegance, Resting Under the Oak Tree is fully in keeping with the cultured and refined oeuvre of Pietro Girardi, an artist trained at the Brera Academy and associated with a classicist vision updated to the sensibilities of the early 20th century.
The scene, immersed in a luminous and idealized natural setting, presents an Arcadian subject: a nude female figure, reclining with composed naturalness, engages in conversation with a satyr intent on playing the flute, while two cherubs enliven the composition with a playful and symbolic tone. The large tree towering over the group serves as both a structural and poetic element, creating an intimate and sheltered space, almost suspended outside of time.
