Engraving "masks" by the committed Soviet artist Nonna Georgina Khotemova , born on October 10, 1915 in the Republic of Kuris , Nonna graduated from the Moscow State Art Institute (Surikova) in 1941. an "official" graphic artist and painter and member of the Union of Artists of the USSR, she developed a passion for Africa, making 18 trips there.
"For me, Africa is my feelings, my thoughts, my work as an artist". In 1962, she joined the board of the Comité d'Amitié entre les Peuples Africains.
For her, there's no room for exoticism in her work, but she has a vision of an "Africa enamored of freedom and fighting for its independence (!)
Let's leave aside this vision marking her era and admire the graphic design, composition and energy of this beautiful etching, in very good condition and annotated on the back by the artist, and signed and dated in the lower right-hand corner of the etching.
