Water Drum, Traditional Instrument, Tribal Art, Oceanic Art, Papua New Guinea
Rare water drum in hard wood collected in the Sawos area in Papua New Guinea. The water drum is used for traditional ceremonies evoking original myths. Water drummers are hidden away near the banks of the Sepik River, behind a leafy palisade, where they make the spirit of the ancestors "sing". This type of drum produces a powerful thud when, thanks to the two handles placed throughout, the hollowed-out drum is lifted and violently strikes the surface of the water. Antique piece of high ethnographic quality representing the primordial woman. Sold with a base. Approx. 40 x 37 x 17 cm / €1,800 including base and shipping for Europe.
