Grand et Beau Canon d'Autel en Parchemin illuminated in Rome in1941 by Master V.Cupini.

The canon d'autel (sometimes called "carte-gloria")is a set of three movable boards or leaves placed vertically on the altarplaced vertically on the altar during the celebration of the traditional mass(Tridentine rite).

The central canon, placed in the middle of the altar, contains the most importantmost important prayers, including the Gloria, the Credo and, above allwords of the Consecration.
The canon on the left (Gospel side) contains the text of the prologuefrom the Gospel according to St. John, which traditionally concludes the Mass.
The box on the right (Epistle side) presents the prayers forthe mixing of water and wine in the Chalice, and the Lavabo (a prayer the priest recitesthe priest recites while washing his hands).

Each of the three frames features numerous illuminationsbiblical episodes (Circumcision,Nativity, Baptism of Christ, Pelican, etc., as well as to the object's patron.

In the center is the coat of arms of Pope Pius XII, and on the side frames,another unidentified coat of arms that can be described as: per pale azure and goldermine counterchanged, between on the azure a World proper and on the goldon Or, a sun Gules issuant from the sinister angle of the chief".

Also appearing are miniatures titled "Beauvais 1875-1889"perhaps the Château de Mello; a view of "Seyssinet1889-1904" depicting the Notre-Dame de la Croix convent in Murinais(Isère) and four views of "Allex" and "Susa1904-1920 ". These include the church in Allex (Drôme) and the one inSusa (Italy), near Turin in Piedmont.

Other views of Rome decorate the central section.

The ensemble is framed by borders decorated withscrolls (slight accidents).
