A George IV set of six silver gilt salts, Solomon Hougham, London, 1811.Each salt features an oval body with a shaped rim, finely decorated with a floral and foliate motif. Each piece rests on four smooth spherical feet, providing both stability and elegance. A noble coat of arms is engraved on the sides of the salts. Vermeil, a technique involving the gilding of solid silver, was highly prized on Georgian aristocratic tables for combining the preciousness of gold with the workability of silver.
