Portrait Of A Woman And Her Dog With A Pearl Necklace, Follower Of Caspar Netscher (1639-168)
Portrait of a woman and with her dog wearing a pearl necklace in a theatrical setting with a curtain opening onto the garden with a fountain.
She's wearing a "déshabillé": refined interior attire very much in vogue at the time. This garment was inspired by the so-called French fashion. Her hairstyle, typical of the 1670s-1680s, adopts the "à la hurluberlu" style. On her lap rests a small spaniel, a favorite companion of court ladies and a symbol of loyalty and affection. She seems gently mocking...! The details of this painting are delightful, the dog's pearl collar, delicate hands and personified fountain.
