Cookie - Le Pêcheur Napolitain à La Coquille After Jean-baptiste Carpeaux (1827-1875) , 19th Century
Ancient & elegant cookie depicting The Neapolitan Fisherman Listening to a Shell, a famous composition by sculptor Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux (1827-1875).
A young Neapolitan fisherman kneels, holding a shell to his ear in an attitude both spontaneous and full of grace.
The smiling face, lively expression and natural body movement perfectly convey the spirit of Carpeaux's original work, characteristic of the naturalism and sensibility of the Second Empire.
The modeling is particularly meticulous: fine facial features, delicate work on the hands, details of the bonnet and shell. The body features a beautiful anatomical rendering and great smoothness in volume transitions, qualities that are very well enhanced by the matte cookie material.
This figure rests on a solid base, and is a perfect example of this.
