Paire De Lampes à Pétrole, Maison Gagneau Fin 19ème Siècle
Pair of red ceramic and bronze oil lamps, by GAGNEAU, rue Lafayette, Paris.
Napoleon III style
Total height 90x22 cm
Pair of large deep red glazed ceramic oil lamps, resting on finely openwork bronze mounts with foliate decoration.
The baluster shafts feature a slightly crackled glaze, evoking Far Eastern-inspired "sang-de-bœuf" enamels, very much in vogue at the end of the 19th century.
The mounts, in the Napoleon III taste, are richly worked with gadrooned friezes and openwork motifs, resting on small feet.
Each lamp retains its antique system marked "GAGNEAU - DUP BATTERY - ci-devant Lambert & Cie", attesting to quality Parisian production.
The white opaline glass globes and clear glass mantels are in very good condition and appear to be original
Post-electrification in good condition.
Shows a firing irregularity in the enamel, with no impact on solidity, typical of this type of production (See photo).
