Napoleon III Leaning Furniture With Mother-of-pearl Inlays
Exceptional Napoleon III period furniture in blackened wood, richly adorned with a remarkable mother-of-pearl marquetry forming a geometric mosaic with repetitive decoration, of great finesse of execution.
The front, particularly sophisticated, develops a regular pattern evoking orientalist decorative arts, very much in vogue during the Second Empire. The delicately inlaid mother-of-pearl catches the light and produces a play of iridescent reflections of great elegance.
The ornamentation is completed by a finely chased and gilded bronze trim including falls, frames, mascarons and sabots, underlining with refinement the architecture of the piece.
The central door, framed with molded reserves and gilded fillets, highlights the richness of the inlaid decoration. The whole piece rests on turned legs typical of quality production in the second half of the 19th century.
