Tim Orr Ceramic
Sculptor, Painter and Ceramist
Tim was born in England in 1940. He moved to France in 1960 to Biot near Antibes with Jacqueline. They were among the first to work with porcelain on an artistic level. In this context, Tim continues to give workshops on certain facets of clay sculpture. Their work has resulted in several large-scale murals (among others, the port of Cavalaire in the Var), a series of 4 large sculptures for the Lapeyronie hospital in Montpellier, large-scale pieces for public spaces and commissions from private collectors.
They decided to leave the Côte d'Azur for the Hérault and settled in Brissac. Since Jacqueline's death in 1989, Tim has worked alone, emphasizing in his research a bronze-porcelain juxtaposition, garden pieces, cement sculptures and tinting, paint-enamel on high-temperature porcelain.
Why do you get into painting or sculpture?
In this case, there's curiosity, and a search for the static and timeless.
Then, a fascination with the profound changes in matter. Apprehension, excitement at the moment of casting, of that smoldering red thread of molten metal.
The chemical change, again due to fire, of porcelain into sterile, unalterable matter.
Anxiety, faced with a blank block of stone or paper.
The backgrounds of the paintings are often blended with colored air, using air brushes and stencils to tend towards a notion of mechanical repetition of form, which leads to placing a blur over a normally recognizable subject.
This gives rise to an aesthetic reverie, an almost figurative painting, a step or two away from the expected reality.
The same research is found in sculpture, where he goes into the stylization of a figurative object.
