Glazed Earthenware Jug - Poterie De Bavent - Bayeux Tapestry Decor
A faience jug with narrative decoration, produced in Bavent, Normandy. The body is adorned with a scene inspired by the Bayeux Tapestry. The figures, defined by strong outlines and restrained colour fields, are rendered in a style that is both naïve and highly legible.
The piece belongs to the tradition of 20th-century Bavent productions and is particularly reminiscent of the work of Adolphe-Jean Desmants, who played a key role in renewing the workshop’s decorative repertoire through historical and regional themes.
The deep brown glaze, with subtle metallic reflections, contrasts with the lighter reserve of the decoration and enhances the generous presence of the form.
Impressed mark under the base. Very well preserved.
