A large glass ball used as a wig-holder
or as a hat , made in the mid-19th century using
the potichomanie technique , which consists in cutting out
pictures of illustrations executed on paper , and sticking them
on the inside of a ball , then covering the surface
with paint , so as to give the appearance of painted porcelain
.
The white reflection is due to the light.
On the very colorful ball, we can see five characters and
many butterflies.
