Paulini's name comes across regularly in Bordeaux among the watercolors on the market. Always finely crafted, they sometimes depict the Basin, sometimes the villages surrounding the port city, or even more distant lands, like our sheet.
Paulini, exhibited from 1909 in Bordeaux, at the Salon des Amis des Arts, until 1924, with the same Bordeaux address. He presented himself as a pupil of Gaston Ollivier, also a watercolorist from Charente.
Paulini also exhibited in Toulouse in 1921 and 1923, at the Salon des Artistes Méridionaux, including a view of the Dordogne at Bergerac.
Our sheet, located on the Dronne a few kilometers from La Roche-Chalais, shows us both the Périgord and the Charente, the border being at the heart of the waters. The mills of Parcoul and the remains of the bridge are faithfully represented here. Thanks to postcards, we rediscover the exact landscape of the early XXe century, this time brought to life in color.
