A striking painting by Robert Mortier, depicting a view of an unidentified harbor basin. An expressionist painter of the early 20th century, he exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants from 1912. He is known for his portrait of Apollinaire. He had numerous exhibitions in Europe, as well as in the United States and Japan. The work is signed lower left: R Mortier, and inscribed below the signature: to Gabriel and Madeleine Sioules (?) in long-standing friendship. An annotation on the back is illegible.
