Ensemble d'Intailles En Plâtre Teinté Grand Tour Style Work, Late XVIIIᵉ - Early XIXᵉ Century
Suite of six intaglio prints in tinted plaster (white and pink), mounted in circular medallions with gilded borders.
The subjects represent antique-style profiles, mythological figures and historical or literary characters, in the neoclassical taste. One of the profiles notably evokes Dante, while others repeat antique types inspired by engraved gems.
These objects are part of the tradition of antique gem moldings, circulated at the end of the XVIIIᵉ century in the context of the Grand Tour, for the purposes of artistic study and collecting.
They recall the productions of James Tassie's workshop and similar European workshops.
